It’s time for a bit serious scenery and altitude; a pleasant contrast to the confined space of the gompas. Time for some fresh air; so get out those walking shoes and prepare your eyes for a visual feast. Oh, and don’t forget the camera, as next is on to Chang-La and beyond – the great Pangong Lake Tour.
The average altitude of the lake is around 4000 meters, so please come prepared for a bit cold. The route to Pangong also involves crossing Chang-La pass, elevation 5300 metres. When the weather is poor, even during summer, the higher reaches of the Changthang often experience snow shower.
The greater 70% of the lake is in the Tibet autonomous region, and 30% is in India. The lake extends up to 134 km in length and 5 km in width, and in winter it freezes up completely even though it is saline water.
Pangong Lake Tour is famous for a few reasons. First, it draws several migratory birds during summer, and second the famous 3-idiot movie being shot here. This beautiful lake circled by picturesque villages is a popular destination for avid Bikers.
The lake is devoid of any fish, due to its saline water.
What is included in the tour

- Vehicle will be Toyota Innova or Manindra Xylo, if the group exceeds more then 6 Pax, then we will provide Force Traveller.

Day 1- Arrive Leh | Evening Sightseeing | Distance 5 km
- Arrive at Kushok Bakula Rimpoche airport Leh and transfer to the hotel.
- You need to acclimatise for the new altitude, take a sip of water every 15 minutes and rest till evening.
- Visit Leh Palace and Shanti Stupa, and it is perfect for a view of the town and photography.
- Shop at the local marketplace for souvenir or local cuisine.
Day 2- Sham Valley Sightseeing | Distance 70 km
- Today is going to be a mild excursion so that you adapt to the new environment.
- Visit Hall of fame, Magnetic hill, Pathar sahib gurdwara and Sangam point.
- Avoid running or brisk walking for today.
- Return to the hotel and rest.
Day 3- Leh to Nubra Valley | Khardong-La ( world highest motorable road ) | Distance 130 km
- Today you will pass through Khardung-La and into the beautiful valley of Nubra.
- Visit Hunder village for double-humped camel riding and cultural show in the evening.
- Check into your camp/hotel and retire for the day.
Day 4- Back to Leh | Diskit Monastery | Distance 135 km
- Visit Diskit Gompa while coming back.
- Photography is not allowed in the Gompa.
- You can visit the local Bazaar later in the evening.
Day 5- Pangong Lake Tour | Chang-La ( Third highest motorable road ) | Distance 150 km
- After your breakfast leave for the most exciting part of this trip.
- Pass through Chang-La into the scenic landscape of Changthang Plateau.
- The sound of water at the shoreline of Pangong Tso is soothing.
- Stay at a camp near the lake.
Day 6- Back to Leh via the same route | Distance 150 km
- Drive back to Leh and visit shooting point of the 3-idiot movie.
- Visit Rancho school ( Druk Padma Karpo School ).
- Check into the hotel and let go of your tiredness.
Day 7- Departure | Distance 5km
- Morning transfer to the airport for your scheduled flight.
- Tour ends with loads of memories from Ladakh Tour.
