Overview

At last, world highest motor able road Umlingla pass is in operation for bike trip, it was few years into the making and now is ready to be conquered. This Umling-la bike trip is no walk in the park, make no mistake about it. You have to come prepared both physically and mentally, keep in mind that no Cellular service works in the area except for Bsnl Postpaid that too in Hanle. After departing from Hanle you will come across Hanle bridge, punch some kilometres and you will see the Kalatartar plain, ( Barren straight road), and if you are lucky you will get the chance of seeing the majestic Tibetan Gazelle on this road.

Umlingla bike trip is not complete without the plains of kalatartar and blacktop road, which is amazing landscape and picturesque. And after riding for a while you will come across Nerbo-la pass. ( 5282 m ), take a break for a while and enjoy the view. And after a short break head towards  Umling-la, on the way you will come across a sign board which says “now you are above Everest base camp” this is heartwarming and an accomplishment of this ride. And just after an hour or two you will come across the highest motor able road in the world Umling la pass ( 5798 m ) It has dethrone the khardong-la pass of ( 5603 m ) as the highest road in the world.

If you go a bit further you will come across the last village of Indo- china border which is Demjok.

From Hanle to Umling-la there is no restaurant or Atm. And the distance from Hanle to Top is  75 km and takes roughly around 5 hrs when riding from Nerbo la pass, there is another road which leads to the Top via Photi la pass and it is around 115 km and takes roughly 7 hrs to cover one side distance, So go with all these things in mind.

To do this trip you have to reach Hanle, and there is few ways you can reach Hanle

First Route- fly directly to leh and after 1 day break visit hanle via Karu - Upshi - Chumathang - Nyoma - Hanle. Distance will be around 260 km, duration will be 8 hrs

Second Route- you can start from Manali - Jespa - Serchu - Tsomoriri - Hanle. Distance will be 490 km. Duration 2 days.

Third Route- you can do Nubra and Pangong trip and after that you will go to Chuchul - Tsaga-la - Nyoma- Hanle.

Itinerary
How the days are going to look like

Day 1- Arrival and acclimate for the new altitude 

Difficulty – Easy

Altitude gain – 3500m

Highlights – Shanti Stupa and Leh Palace 

  • Today you will arrive at the Leh airport where you will be received by one of our representative and will transfer to a hotel in Leh. 
  • Keep yourself hydrated and avoid any physical activity for today, you will need to acclimate to the new environment. 
  • In the evening visit Leh Palace and Shanti Stupa and will be dropped at the local bazaar at Leh.
  • Overnight stay in Leh

 

Day 2- Leh Local Sightseeing | Sangam point | Magnetic Hill 

Difficulty – Easy

Altitude gain – 3500m

Highlights – Hall of fame, Sangam point, Magnetic hill 

  • Today you will visit sham valley of Leh, after your breakfast you will be guided to Hall of fame at Spituk, the meeting point of Indus and Zanskar river ( Sangam point ) and witness the gravity defying phenomenon at Magnetic hill.
  • You can have your lunch at Nemo market near Sangam and back to Leh.
  • You can visit Leh Bazaar for souvenir or buy prep for your ride to Umling-la pass.
  • Overnight stay in Leh

 

Day 3- Leh to Hanle via Nyoma | Chumathang hot spring

Difficulty – Medium hard

Altitude of Hanle – 4280m

Highlights – Hot spring | Highest Astronomical Observatory of India

  • Don’t shy from taking a huge breakfast because Leh to Hanle is 260 km. And you are going to need some calories to burn.
  • Start you day early around 7 am, so that we have spare time for some sightseeing on the road. Head towards Karu market, fuel the bike to the brim, and head towards Upshi market, there police will check for the permit and after that you will go towards Chumathang. Take a bath at Chumathang hot spring if they allow for it. Sometimes they don’t or there is not enough cold water to mix.
  • After some kilometres you will come across Nyoma village, halt for a tea break or lunch, most of the road are not asphalt so enjoy the off-road.
  • Reach Hanle in the evening and visit the Indian Astronomical observatory, or Hanle monastery, both are situated on hill so it has great view for photography.
  • Overnight stay at Hanle

 

Day 4- Hanle to Umling-la pass | Nerbo-la pass | Kalatartar plain

Difficulty – Hard

Altitude of Umling-la pass – 5798m

Highlights –  Offroad Heaven | Blacktop road | Nerbo-la pass (5282 m)

  • Take a hefty breakfast, lube the chain of your bike, check for loose nuts and bolts and head towards Hanle bridge, stay in a group and don’t keep huge distance between riders. Our road captain and backup car will coordinate with a radio.
  • After crossing the bridge you will come across Kalatartar plain, it is same as the Moore plain of leh manali road but not an asphalt one. This is off-road with sands flying from the rider ahead of you so ride in any direction you want to avoid the sand.
  • After punching some miles you will come across blacktop road, it is tarmac road and is an engineering marvel. Head towards Nerbo-la and after that you are above Everest base camp for reference.
  • This bike expedition to Umling-la is about this terrain and serenity of the place. You can meditate for a while if you want. Reach the top and take some photos and realise the accomplishment of your endeavour.
  • After absorbing your feat, head back to Hanle via same route.
  • Overnight stay at Hanle.

 

Day 5- Hanle to Pangong Lake via Loma bend | Tsaga-la pass

Difficulty – hard

Altitude of Pangong Lake – 4200m

Highlights – Tsaga-la | Pangong Lake | Chuchul war memorial

  • After a delicious breakfast leave for Pangong Lake, You have to start the ride early
  • Your tour captain will instruct about the road ahead of you and you have to be compliant with the riding, go to Loma bend and rest for a while in the meantime your permit will be checked at the Loma Checkpost.
  • Head towards Tsaga-la pass and you will comeacrsoss Chuchul war memorial, pay your respect to the fallen soldiers and visit Chuchul village. Take your lunch at the village market.
  • After your lunch head towards Merak village, and you will not fail to see the majestic Pangong Lake at your right after crossing a village called “Khaktat”.
  • Enjoy the view and stay at campsite of Pangong Lake

 

Day 6- Pangong to Nubra Valley | Sand dune

Difficulty – Medium

Altitude of Nubra – 3000m

Highlights – Shayok valley | Zipline | Camel riding | Diskit Monestary

  • Start your day with the changing colour of Pangong Lake, Sunrise at Pangong Lake is amazing.
  • Have your breakfast with the group and warm your motorcycles up for the ride ahead.
  • Shayok Valley is amazing landscape with lots of bends and narrow road, be careful in this road and head towards Nubra Valley, once you reach you can check into the camp, leave your baggage and do zipline, Adv riding or camel, riding there will be cultural show at sand dune
  • Overnight stay at campsite of Nubra.

 

Day 7- Nubra to Leh | Khardong-la pass ( 5359 m )

Difficulty – Medium

Altitude of Leh – 3500m

Highlights – Khardong-la pass | valley of flower

  • Have your breakfast and start riding towards Leh, on the way you can visit Diskit monastery if time permits. Enjoy the beautiful valley of Nubra Valley towards Leh, like Shayok there are lots of curves and bends so be careful with riding,
  • After sometime reach khardong village and rest for a tea break, continue your journey and reach Khardong-la pass ( second highest motor able road) after that descend into the village of gangles and after that Leh Market.
  • Overnight stay at Hotel in Leh.

 

Day 8- Departure

  • Congratulation you have successfully completed the Umling-la bike expedition on the world highest motor-able road. We wish you best of luck for your future endeavour and trip ends with loads of memories and new friends.

Terms and Conditions

To reserve a slot you need to pay ₹ 2500/person, at the time of booking the trip & balance to be paid 15 days before tour starts.
Mototour ladakh holds no responsibility for road blocks or flight cancelled or any unforeseen situation happen on tour.
Child between 5 – 8 yrs is 30% of the total cost, Under without bed charges (no bed / extra mattress will be provided) and child above 8 yrs is considered adult (extra mattress will be provided)

Cancellation Policy
  • 25% Of the total tour cost will be charged if cancelled before 15 days before the tour departure date.
  • 50% cancellation charges if cancelled 10 days before the tour departure date.
  • No cancellation refund will be made if cancelled before 9 days to departure date.
  • No refund will be made once the tour starts.
